How to wash your Atlas Baking Pizza Steel

Let's be honest, steels can be a bit intimidating to work with.. "don't get it wet", "make sure to season it", so on and so on.

I'm here to tell you, IT'S REALLY NOT COMPLICATED!

If you get it wet... DRY IT!

If it ends up getting a bit rusty, IT'S NOT RUINED!

Our pizza steels hardly ever leave our oven, and if they do it's typically to be moved to the BBQ not to the sink for a bath.  But, in the case that bathing is necessary (if you have grease sitting on top of your steel, your pizza steel is sticky, you want to use your steel for dessert after it was just used for meat, etc) all you have to do is wash it with warm, soapy water, dry it well and give it a light coat of oil again.  Then your steel is ready to go again!

If you end up getting some rust stops on it, you're not alone.  We have had a couple rust spots on ours after not drying it properly.  Take a steel wool or grill pumice stone and lightly scrub the rust away.  I prefer to do this when the steel is wet.  Once the rust has been removed, I give it a good wash and re-season it with oil.  Ready to make pizzas again!
