Big Mac Inspired Smash Burger Recipe (Step-by-step)

Craving a Big Mac but want to take it up a notch?

This Big Mac inspired smash burger is crispy, juicy, and layered with all the classic flavours, plus a homemade twist on that infamous sauce. Perfect for a summer afternoon BBQ.

Burger Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 1.5 tablespoons Montreal steak spice
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 4 white hamburger buns
  • 4 slices of cheese
  • 2 cups shredded iceberg lettuce
  • Sliced pickles

Burger Sauce Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons sweet relish
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 2 teaspoons yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon minced onion
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef with Montreal steak spice and ground pepper. Add salt or any of your favourite seasonings to taste.

  2. Divide the beef into 8 equal portions (about 1/4 pound each) and roll into balls. Chill them in the fridge while you prep everything else.

  3. In a small bowl, stir together all burger sauce ingredients. Refrigerate until ready to use.

  4. Preheat your Gridiron Pro Griddle on the BBQ. Toast the buns until golden and set aside.

  5. Place the beef balls on the hot griddle. Using a piece of parchment paper and your Atlas Burger Stamp, smash each ball into a 1/4-inch-thick patty.

  6. Sear for 2–3 minutes, then cover for 1 more minute to help them cook through. Flip, top 4 of the patties with cheese, and sear for another minute.

  7. To double stack, place a cheese-topped patty on top of another and remove from heat.

  8. Build your burgers: Spread burger sauce on the bottom bun, add shredded lettuce, your double-stacked patties, more sauce, extra lettuce, pickles, and the top bun.
