How to care for your wood pizza peel
How to care for your acacia wood pizza peel

I’m sure we’ve all got our wood pizza peels full of pizza sauce or sticky jam while trying to get our pizzas onto our pizza steel or stone, it’s bound to happen every now and then.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When this happens, it’s okay to wash your wood pizza peel with soap and water, making sure to wash the edges, back and front. Most people only wash the top, and that actually ends up hurting the peel. When moisture reacts with grain, it swells, and if the swelling isn’t uniform, it can warp the board. A rocking pizza peel usually means that only one side was washed.

Next, let your pizza peel dry overnight. I tend to dry it on edge, leaning against a wall to ensure the top and bottom dry evenly.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Once it’s dry, apply a thin layer of food-grade mineral oil with your hands or lint free cloth. Let absorb for 3 or 4 hours.

If a wood pizza peel is taken care of properly, it could last a lifetime!
